Take
Action for Just & Sustainable Food in your Community
It's the Real Food Now Month of Action on American college campuses, and we're writing with two great ways for all the eaters out there to get involved, no matter when you last saw the inside of a classroom. * Take action for real food in your community. Many of us take meals in schools and universities, work place cafeterias, childcare centers, churches and more. Can you imagine the potential benefits to eaters, workers and the environment if that food were sourced from local, sustainable producers? >>Learn more and Take Action to get real, fair food in your cafeteria. * Become an NC Ambassador for Just & Sustainable Agriculture. Work with Toxic Free NC to arrange a meeting with your state Representatives this Fall and talk about doing more to support sustainable farming and healthy eating in our state. >>Find out more about this powerful and enjoyable way to support sustainable farmers in NC. |

Take Action for Real Food!
This month during the Real Food National Month of Action, start a conversation with the folks who feed you at school, work or church about where that food comes from, and ask them to support more local, just and sustainable producers! The Month of Action organizers have compiled a list of resources for college students who want real food on campus - many of the ideas are transferable to other cafeterias as well, so take advantage.
Where else could you bring more eaters together with locally-grown foods in your community? What about bringing a CSA drop-site to your workplace, childcare center, or church? What about a community garden in your neighborhood? Get some more ideas from Toxic Free NC's new factsheet, "Eat Local, Eat Pesticide-Free!"

Be an NC Ambassador for Just
& Sustainable Agriculture
We want to help you make your voice heard for sustainable farming in North Carolina.
Thanks in large part to concerned citizens like you, we were able to win some important protections for farmworkers during the 2008 legislative session. People all around the state sat down to meet with their representatives last Spring to share their concerns and ideas about protecting farmworkers from pesticides.
You can help us lay the groundwork for next year's legislative session. Until next January when the new legislative session begins, your NC representatives are on a break, and back in their hometowns near you. This is a great opportunity for you to meet with them in person while they're close by, and outside the pressure-cooker atmosphere of the General Assembly.
Toxic Free NC can help you to arrange and prepare for a meeting with one of your state representatives this Fall, together with a small group of like-minded people in your legislative district. You don't need any particular experience or expertise - just your own passion for farming that respects the environment and human health!
