April is Organic Gardening Month at Toxic Free NC!
Join the Celebration and Take the Organic Garden Pledge!

We're celebrating the start of the growing season by declaring April Organic Gardening Month! Join us by taking our Organic Garden Pledge to make your garden toxic free!

This month, Toxic Free NC is celebrating the start of spring gardening season by ramping up efforts to help home and community gardeners around North Carolina grow the healthiest, safest food they possibly can – without hazardous pesticides.

We want more people in North Carolina – especially pregnant women and young children – to have access to fresh, local and ORGANIC food grown without toxic chemicals. It’s a tall order and we have a lot of work to do to make it happen.

Making our own home and community gardens toxic free is the first step. Take the Organic Garden Pledge today!

We truly believe that organic food is for everyone - no matter your income level. The more we learn about how exposure to pesticides harms us, the more convinced we are that everyone should be eating organic food. From lowered IQs and poisoned pets to polluted soil and water, growing food with hazardous chemicals is a harmful practice whose time has passed.

That's why we're asking you to take action and sign our Organic Garden Pledge. Making our own home and community gardens pesticide-free is a great way to start making delicious, healthy and organic food more available to everyone!

Want to do more to help spread the word about Organic Gardening Month? Support our work with a donation, or invite us to come provide a workshop for your school or church garden!

And don't forget to tell all your friends and neighbors about Organic Gardening Month!

Organic Garden Pledge

Whereas:

Toxic pesticides are over-used on our farms, parks, yards and gardens;
Pesticides sprayed on gardens can kill birds, bees, fish and other wildlife;
Pesticides in gardens can harm children and pets as they play and explore;
Chemical pesticides and fertilizers rob the soil of important life and nutrients;
Pesticide residues in our food mean pesticide residues in our bodies;
Pesticides don’t belong in our bodies; and
Food should be tasty, healthy and safe;

Therefore:

I pledge to grow my garden without hazardous chemicals! I will use natural methods like compost and mulch to build healthy soil. I will manage pests without poisons. And I will share what I know about organic gardening with friends, family and community gardens where I live.
