This month, Toxic Free NC celebrates 20 years of work for pesticide reform, environmental health and justice in North Carolina. In honor of our 20th Anniversary, we've compiled this list of 20 ways to reduce pesticide use and create a safer, healthier environment in your home, community and state. Just click the links in this email to find a wealth of information about going pesticide free and making positive changes in your community.

20 Ways to Support Pesticide Reform, Health and Justice
At Home


1. Pest proof your home (Downloads 195 KB file).

2. Convert your lawn to an eco-friendly home habitat.

3. Make a home IPM kit for yourself, or for someone whose health you care about. Be sure to include non-toxic biodegradable soap, borax powder, herbal insect repellant, Mason jars or plastic food storage containers, and a tube of caulk.

4. Shop your local farmer's market.

5. Join a CSA farm.

6. Shop farmworker-friendly.

7. Sign yourself and a friend up for Toxic Free NC's action alerts - and take action!

8. Sport a beautiful "Pesticide-Free Kids! Niños Libres de Pesticidas!" sticker proudly on your car, clipboard, computer, bulletin board..... You can get one free with any donation to Toxic Free NC, by attending one of our outreach events or presentations, or visiting our office.

9. Protect a child from pesticides by working for least-toxic IPM in his or her child care center or school.

10. Report pesticide drift - especially when it occurs within 100 feet of homes, or within 300 feet of a school, church, child care center or business.

11. Invite a staff member or volunteer from Toxic Free NC to speak at your church, community center, civic group, or work place.

12. VOTE! Early voting is underway in North Carolina.

13. Ask questions about what products are being used around you, and always take a stand for a precautionary approach when it comes to toxic chemicals like pesticides.

14. Feed locally grown organic food to people you love - especially children!

15. Volunteer for Toxic Free NC.

16. Teach a child to garden organically.

17. Share Toxic Free NC's factsheets about safer alternatives to pesticides with your friends, family, workmates, church congregation, or civic group.

18. Support Toxic Free NC.

19. Make a gift to Toxic Free NC in honor of a loved one this holiday season, or any time of year. For a gift of $35 or more, your loved one will receive a handmade holiday card acknowledging your gift.

20. Host a party to raise friends and funds for Toxic Free NC. Contact our staff to learn more.
