This fall we’re celebrating the fifth anniversary and complete phase-in of the School Children’s Health Act!
As of October 1st, all public schools in North Carolina are now required to use a safer, more effective and cheaper method of pest control called Integrated Pest Management (or IPM for short).
IPM controls pests through inspection, sanitation and maintenance—fixing problems at the source—instead of just spraying quarterly or monthly. What’s more is that IPM can save schools money while protecting kids and school staff from both pests and toxic pesticides.
Schools should now notify parents and staff annually about their IPM program, and give parents and staff the option to sign up for advanced notification of higher-risk pesticide applications at the school. Let us know if you’re not getting notification—we’d love to help.
Bonus: Here are 5 Toxic Free tips for IPM you can do at home!
